Staying Power Curriculum

Welcome to Staying Power Curriculum. I have been in children's ministry for over 25 years and have loved every minute of it. Children's ministry has been my passion. During a time of pioneering our church we bagan meeting in a hotel. We had been in our previous location for 10 years. We packed up believing that we would be moving into our new facilities within 6 months. During our pack up we also packed up all the curriculum for our children's department.

Our children's church was held in a conference room at a hotel, with ages varying from 2 months to 10 years of age. This offered two challenges:

  1. No curriculum
  2. Wide age gap

How do you minister to such a large age gap, and feed these little lambs effectively? Answer: with much prayer, listening, preparation, and direction from the Lord. Additional key, a staff working in unity and commitment. 2 years later we moved into our new church building.

During this time my Pastor Kenny Gatlin, wrote and published a book called, Staying Power. As I read the book which was filled with so much truth, my spirit began stirring and my mind was going. Every page my mind kept saying, my kids need to know these truths. I underlind and tabbed this book. I opened my Bible and began to study and write notes. Took my notes to computer, and began dividing the sections of the book into lessons, games, crafts, take home pages, and so much more.

During those two years there were many challenges, tests, and trials. I have always taken the curriculum given and added crafts and games, along with praise and worshp. I would never have know the gift that God has given me of writing curriculum for Sunday and Wednesdays if we hadn't been challenged in this area. It has been 5 years since we moved into our new buildings and I continue to write the curriculum for our children's department. I pray you will be blessed and find tools and lessons that will help you as you teach and minister in your children's department, or maybe you are a homeschool mom and are looking for lessons and crafts for your little ones.

I pray you will be blessed and you will come by and visit often.

Staying Power Curriculum theme is race cars. We are in a race to receive the prize, our faith will be the fuel that gets us to the finish line. Faith is always trusting Jesus!

Faith and Faithfulness go hand in hand when it comes to Staying Power!

  • Faith is the substance - believing Jesus in everything above all circumstances with trust and hope.
  • Faithfulness is following - staying with Jesus no matter the circumstances, never drawing back, never quitting in following, trust, and hope in Jesus.

"But now, since you know God, or rather have become known by God, how can you turn back again to the weak and bankrupt elemental forces? Do you want to be enslaved to them all over again? Galatians 4:9 HSCB

From Staying Power, Kenny Gatlin

We  have to many believers today, and yes I'm also including preacher's in this number, who have the initials DNF placed beside their name after each of their "races." For example (DNF - Did Not Finish),

  • DNF - walking closely with God consistently
  • DNF - Ministry Assignment
  • DNF - A long-lasting, happy, Godly marriage
  • DNF - Children taught of the Lord
  • DNF - Receiving God's promises by faith
  • DNF - Faithful and consistent church attendence
  • DNF - Effective prayer life

Sadily, this list is a small sampling of the DNF's many believers are experiencing in their lives.

When I read these first sentences from this book, my mind to many of the children that I have taught. As I stated I have been in children's ministry over 30 years, and I have sadly watched children who loved Jesus, to worship and praise, who loved to earn those memory verse awards, who carried their Bible proudly into church, reach teenage and young adult age, and walk away from Jesus.

It has always been such a heart break for me. You see them on Facebook and see the lifestyle they have chosen over Jesus, I always cry out to God and ask Him where we may have missed it. Did they just experience church or did they actually experience Jesus? I know parents are responsibile for their children, but as a teacher in children's church we are partnering with their parents to help train them in the things of God. I continue to pray for all my children that I have taught, and stand on Proverbs 22:6

There are Core Principals for each lesson, there are 15 in all. These Core Principals are needed for Staying Power. I  would encourage every teacher to read the book Staying Power, not only to effectively minister this curriculum to your kids, but for yourselves. We live in a day and time when principals, integrity, selflessness is a rarity. Jesus told us that in the last days men would be lovers of self, and we see it everywhere, including unfortunately even in the church.

We all need these Core Principals to be fresh reminders of who we are in Christ, and remind us of our high calling and maintain this standard in our lives.
